Why must a combination-vehicle driver account for off-tracking during a turn?
Correct answer: C – It causes the rear wheels to follow a different path from the front wheels
The Arizona CDL manual uses the term off-tracking for the different paths followed by the front and rear wheels in a turn. Longer combinations off-track more, with the rear wheels of the last trailer usually tracking farthest inward. The driver must allow enough turning clearance to keep the rear of the vehicle away from curbs and pedestrians.
