The Arkansas driver’s license knowledge test has a way of looking harmless on paper, right up until you realize it expects you to know more than the obvious stuff. Yes, signs matter. Yes, right-of-way matters. Yes, the state would very much prefer that you understand insurance, work zones, seat belts, DUI laws, and why staring at your phone while driving is a terrible little life choice. This Arkansas drivers permit practice test is built to help you sort through all of that without turning study time into a grim, silent march through the manual. The real Arkansas permit test is given through the Arkansas State Police Driver Examination program, and it comes with 25 multiple-choice questions. You need 20 correct answers to pass, so the magic number is 80%. This practice version uses 20 questions, which makes 16 correct answers the same benchmark. It is not the official exam, and nobody should pretend it is, but it does give you a pretty clean read on whether you are actually absorbing the material or just nodding along at words like “pavement markings” and “financial responsibility.” The questions pull from the same general world as the official Arkansas Driver License Study Guide: traffic laws, road signs, signals, right-of-way, safe driving habits, emergency situations, distracted driving rules, and sharing the road with motorcycles, bicycles, large trucks, and emergency vehicles. A little dry? Sure. But also, these are the rules that keep a four-way stop from turning into a group project with consequences. There is also the office side of things, because getting licensed is never only about answering questions correctly. If you are under 18, Arkansas requires specific identification documents, a parent or legal guardian signature, and accepted secondary ID. Adults need the proper primary and secondary documents as well. Later, when you are dealing with the Revenue Office for a license or state ID, expect to show proof of legal presence, proof of identity, your Social Security card, and then handle the photo and vision screening. The vision part is not decorative. They really do want to know you can see what you are about to drive toward. Arkansas offers study materials and official practice testing in English, Spanish, and Vietnamese, with oral testing options available at some testing locations for applicants with learning differences. So whether you are studying in Little Rock or some quieter stretch of the state where the road signs are still very much in charge, this Arkansas drivers practice test gives you a useful, low-pressure way to get ready before the real appointment.

Sample Arkansas Permit Test Questions

Question 1

Under Arkansas rules, driving much slower than normal traffic without a safety or legal reason can:

  1. A Disrupt traffic flow and increase the risk of a crash
  2. B Make a collision less likely in every situation
  3. C Have no effect on surrounding traffic
  4. D Always qualify as defensive driving

Correct answer: A – Disrupt traffic flow and increase the risk of a crash

Driving substantially slower than surrounding vehicles can cause traffic to accumulate and can increase conflicts between vehicles traveling at different speeds. State law prohibits driving so slowly that normal and reasonable traffic movement is impeded, except when reduced speed is necessary for safety or required by law. A slow driver should use an available turnout when vehicles are backing up behind them.

Question 2

A yellow EXIT ONLY panel appears on an overhead sign above your lane. What will happen if you remain in that lane?

If you see this sign above your lane, you:
  1. A You will be unable to take the exit
  2. B You may either exit or continue straight in that lane
  3. C The lane will continue through the interchange
  4. D The lane will leave the main roadway at the exit

Correct answer: D – The lane will leave the main roadway at the exit

An EXIT ONLY panel identifies a lane that is dropped at the interchange. The lane becomes part of the exit rather than continuing along the main roadway. If you want to continue through the interchange, make a safe lane change before the lane separates.

Question 3

Before driving after taking an over-the-counter medicine, what should you do?

  1. A Read the label and check for driving or drowsiness warnings
  2. B Drink alcohol to offset the medicine
  3. C Drive normally without checking for side effects
  4. D Assume the medicine is safe if driving during daylight

Correct answer: A – Read the label and check for driving or drowsiness warnings

The Arkansas study guide warns that prescription and nonprescription medicines can impair driving. Read the label for warnings and possible side effects before getting behind the wheel. If the information is unclear, consult a doctor or pharmacist, and never combine medication with alcohol.

Question 4

If you must drive in fog, which headlights should you use?

  1. A Low-beam headlights
  2. B High-beam headlights
  3. C Fog lights without headlights
  4. D Parking lights only

Correct answer: A – Low-beam headlights

Use low-beam headlights when driving in fog, snow, or heavy rain. High beams reflect from moisture in the air, producing glare that makes the roadway more difficult to see. If visibility becomes too limited to drive safely, pull over at a safe location and wait for conditions to improve.

Question 5

At an uncontrolled Arkansas intersection, two vehicles arrive from different roads at approximately the same time. Who must yield?

  1. A Either driver may proceed without yielding
  2. B The driver on the left
  3. C The driver on the right
  4. D Neither driver

Correct answer: B – The driver on the left

When two vehicles enter an uncontrolled intersection at approximately the same time, the driver on the left must yield to the vehicle on the right. This rule establishes which vehicle should proceed first. Right-of-way rules do not relieve either driver of the responsibility to take reasonable action to avoid a collision.

Question 6

Before moving left to pass another vehicle, how should you signal?

  1. A Begin signaling only as the tires cross the lane line
  2. B Signal at any point during the pass
  3. C Wait until you are completely in the passing lane
  4. D Signal continuously for at least the last 100 feet before changing lanes

Correct answer: D – Signal continuously for at least the last 100 feet before changing lanes

Arkansas requires a lane-change signal to be given continuously during at least the final 100 feet traveled before the movement. The lane change must also be capable of being made with reasonable safety. When returning to the original lane after passing, signal that lane change as well.
