Louisiana’s Class E knowledge test covers more ground than people usually expect, and that is probably the first thing to know before you sit down with the driver’s guide or click through a Louisiana DMV practice test. The real OMV exam is based on the Louisiana Class D & E Driver’s Guide, so the questions can pull from traffic laws, road signs, signals, pavement markings, safe driving practices, alcohol laws, sharing the road, emergencies, vehicle requirements, and the general responsibilities that come with having a license. Not all of it feels dramatic. Some of it is just plain rule knowledge, which, unfortunately, is exactly the sort of thing that shows up on written tests. The official Louisiana Class E learner’s permit knowledge test has 40 multiple-choice questions. You need an 80% to pass, meaning at least 32 correct answers. That gives you a little room to miss a few, but not enough room to skim the manual once and hope your memory politely handles the rest. This Louisiana DMV learners permit practice test is meant to give you a more realistic way to study, with questions that reflect the same kinds of topics you will need to recognize on the actual DMV written test: right-of-way, traffic signs and signals, school bus rules, lane use, safe following distance, impaired driving, emergencies, and those small license-and-responsibility details that seem minor until they are suddenly the entire question. There is also the licensing process itself, which is worth understanding because Louisiana does things in a fairly specific order. Teen applicants usually need a Temporary Instructional Permit, often called the TIP, before driver education, testing, or behind-the-wheel instruction. A learner’s permit can be issued at age 15, and drivers under 18 must complete the 38-hour driver education course, including 30 hours in the classroom and 8 hours behind the wheel. Adults have their own route, either through the 38-hour course or the shorter pre-licensing option with behind-the-wheel training. Use this Louisiana DMV test practice as a working study tool, not a last-minute decoration for your confidence. It helps you check what you actually know, slow down on the topics that keep catching you, and get used to the way permit test questions tend to frame ordinary driving rules in very official language. Better to sort that out here than at the OMV, where the chairs are rarely comfortable and nobody is especially interested in your learning curve.

  1. A. Judging speeds and distances
  2. B. Reacting promptly to hazards
  3. C. Seeing and focusing clearly
  4. D. All of these choices

Question 2

Which factors can affect how rapidly alcohol is absorbed into the bloodstream?

  1. A. Whether the stomach is empty or food was recently eaten
  2. B. The rate at which drinks are consumed
  3. C. The person's rate of metabolism and elimination
  4. D. All of these choices

  2. B. Turn the front wheels toward the curb
  3. C. Check for approaching traffic and make sure opening the door will not create a hazard

Question 4

If you must enter interstate traffic from a full stop, what do you need?

  1. A. A plan to remain below traffic speed for the first 200 feet
  2. B. A large enough gap and sufficient distance to accelerate toward traffic speed
  3. C. Only enough room for the first approaching vehicle to pass
  4. D. A signal from another driver promising to stop

Correct answer: B. – A large enough gap and sufficient distance to accelerate toward traffic speed

Question 5

Before passing on a two-lane highway, which condition must you verify?

  1. A. You can exceed the speed limit long enough to pass
  2. B. The left side is visible and clear far enough to complete the pass and return before an oncoming vehicle is within 100 feet
  3. C. A solid yellow line is present in your lane

Correct answer: B. – The left side is visible and clear far enough to complete the pass and return before an oncoming vehicle is within 100 feet

Question 6

Why might a large truck move left before completing a right turn?

  1. A. It may need additional lane space to clear the curb or another obstruction
  2. B. It must make every right turn from the left lane
  3. C. It may turn into any lane without checking traffic
  4. D. It automatically has the right-of-way over all other traffic

Correct answer: A. – It may need additional lane space to clear the curb or another obstruction

A truck or bus may swing left before turning right to create enough clearance around a curb or obstruction. It may also use part of an adjacent lane during the maneuver. Drivers should not move between the turning vehicle and the curb because that space can close as the truck turns.
